The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; (Isaiah 61:1 NKJV)

To understand what the bible means when it says “The Spirit of The Lord God is upon me,…” We have to take a look at a scripture from the New Testament,

The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8 NKJV)

In essence, the scripture above is saying that, the person who is born of the Spirit of God is not influenced by external circumstances, the person acts from the light that God has shinned inside his or her heart, and that you really don’t have any other way of knowing that this person is an incarnation of the Spirit except by the visible acts and manifestations done through the person.

When you read through the acts of the apostles, you will realise that every time the scriptures say, “filled by the Spirit,” it is followed by an action or a manifestation of power, this is also the reason why Nicodemus came to Jesus by night and said, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” (John 3:2 NKJV)

The Spirit of God in man is ability to do the works of God, it is the enablement to act in God’s shoes here on earth, both in terms of character and ability. This is why Jesus is called Emmanuel, God with us, and the same reason we as followers of Christ are referred to as “like Christ”(Christians), we are gods, we are incarnations of Christ.

Christianity is not a ‘profession’, it is a ‘being’. We are not men trying to become like Christ, we are new born Christ’s growing into full maturity. We are called the children of God because we were carved out of God Himself, and Christ shows us how to live as gods on earth. It is only when we indeed live as gods on earth that God can deliver those who have been held in bondage by satan from their prisons through us. Tomorrow we shall discuss more on opening the prison doors and leading people into freedom.
