HOW TO PRACTICALLY OPERATE IN GOD’S SHOES (PT. 84)

So, from our last conversation, we understand that people develop patterns in their minds through the repetition of three things; knowledge intake, belief based on that knowledge, and action stemming from that belief, which in turn give them a feedback in form of results, completing the cycle of what we call ‘learning.’ These results do the work of establishing the knowledge as either ‘valid’ or ‘invalid’ to the person. This is the essence of every effective learning system; you teach the student, the student receives the instruction, you get the student to put the belief to test, and then the student gets a result.

But there is something about that system, it can be used both ways, positively and negatively. Let me explain; if you get a child, and start teaching the child that the way to happiness in life is to insult people, and then, when the child insults a person, you reward the child with a gift, something that makes them happy. What you’re doing, is cultivating the mind of the child to establish that, insulting people brings happiness. The more you repeat that cycle, the stronger that realisation becomes within the child’s mind. A mindset forms, the scriptures call this a stronghold. After some time, what you’ll have is a child, who believes in the deepest parts of their mind, that the way to happiness is through insulting people.

Let someone try to tell that child, that there is a better way to happiness, that someone will be wasting his or her energy. That child’s conscience has been trained to recognise a particular way to happiness, one which has been certified valid by the rewards(results) it produced. This is exactly what satan does to people through the agency of the flesh or physical senses. The knowledge that people acquire through ‘observation’ via the senses, lead them to a belief, which then inform a certain line of action that eventually produce an outcome, one that validates the knowledge of the senses as ‘fact’ and ‘reality.’

When Jesus says that the kingdom of God does not come by ‘observation,’ that you can’t say look at it here, or look at it there, but that, it is within you, He is telling us that, ‘true reality’ is not about what can be picked up with the senses within the environment around us, but that ‘true reality’ comes from something, somewhere deep within our hearts. The greatest question of the universe has been, “how do you get to that something, somewhere deep within the heart of man?” Jesus says it’s by being born again. Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. (John 3:5 NKJV)

HOW TO PRACTICALLY OPERATE IN GOD’S SHOES (PT. 83)

This kind of governing influence we are talking about here, is something that develops and grows stronger over time. It means that, the power and effectiveness of ‘fears’ increase as one consistently repeat that cycle of knowledge intake, belief and corresponding action. For example, if you get a business idea, attempt to do something about it, and then give up for lack of physical cash. And then again, you get another business idea months later, and you write up a business plan, try to get the business off the ground, and then again abandon it for lack of sufficient physical cash. What happens is that, your mind deduces that without physical cash, you cannot start a business. So, next time you get a business idea, before you even start, you’ll first of all check how much you have, and decide if the business will work or not.

At this point, the person might think he or she is still in control of their life, but they’re not. The knowledge that says, “business cannot be done without money” has taken control of their life, it has become the god that determines if their business ideas will succeed or not, it has become their ‘god of new business ventures’. This is exactly how nations develop several gods for each aspect of their culture, and this is how people get into bondage in life, and live in darkness. This is how ignorance gains control of people, and brings them into the governing influence of that ‘lie’, which is what becomes their fear in life, keeping them from the truth, which is able to set them free.

Let’s remind ourselves of how this develops; first of all, there is ignorance, which we understand to be ‘protection from the truth’ and not necessarily ‘no knowledge at all.’ It is knowledge that distracts people or prevents people from the truth. So, ignorant people actually have knowledge, but this knowledge they have is wrong, and so it is called a lie. The ignorant person attempts to use this lie in the same way that truth is meant to be used, and that’s why we call it ignorance.

Now, when people operate with lies, they get results consistent with the lie, and then a pattern forms in their mind, they know that “this is what you get if you do these things.” The more they repeat that cycle, the stronger that pattern becomes in their mind. That result they keep getting, that has been proven over time, is what is called death, if the person is operating with sense knowledge. The ‘fear of death’, which is the fear of “what will happen if they do these things”, takes over the persons life, by making sure they always act with the result of the process in mind, thereby giving control of their life to the pattern. Please think deeply on that. We will discuss that more.

HOW TO PRACTICALLY OPERATE IN GOD’S SHOES (PT. 82)

To ‘fear something’ is to be under the controlling influence of that ‘something,’ an influence born out of deep seated and active respect. It produces in the one, a complete trust in the ability and characteristics of that ‘something.’ When one fears ‘something,’ the things known about that ‘something,’ govern the affairs of the one’s life. As far as that ‘something’ which one fears is involved, one calculates the benefits of one’s dealings, the results or consequences of one’s actions, and the final outcome of one’s methods or ways based on the known attributes and workings of that ‘something.’

For example, let’s imagine a fifty storey building, with a porch on each floor, including the ground floor, and each overlooking the compound. Now, imagine you are afraid of heights, and you are going from floor to floor, checking out the porch on each floor. Because of your fear for heights, your entire behaviour when on the porch, as you go higher up the building, will keep changing with respect to what you know of heights, and what can happen with heights. How you move around on the porch, the closest you get to the edges, the degree of carefulness you excercise, how you look down the porch, your behaviour changes as you go higher up. This is what fear is, it is not a feeling, it is a governing system composed of knowledge and belief, which is strengthened more and more with each experience.

Remember our illustration of the two men, one swinging a rope with a dagger at one end and the other swinging a rope with something harmless at the other end? You realise that the movement of the objects at the end of the rope is governed by the movement of the men’s hands? And that the only reason why the objects were moving in agreement with the movement of the men’s hands is because of the rope connecting them? Don’t be told otherwise, each person is led in life by some knowledge and a set of beliefs based on that knowledge, if that knowledge is supplied by your physical senses, you are living in “the fear of death”, but if that knowledge is supplied by the truth, then you are living in “the fear of God.”

HOW TO PRACTICALLY OPERATE IN GOD’S SHOES (PT. 81)

We have been using a certain analogy to explain that things change in form, as they move from one reality to another. We will use that same analogy to further explain the illustration we started with yesterday. But before we do that, let’s go to the scriptures and see why we can confidently use natural things to explain spiritual things. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,” (Romans 1:20 NKJV)

You see, every truth that is revealed in the scriptures, if you look very closely at nature, you will see it also written in the very fabric of the things God has made. So, let no one feel that the analogies we make use of here are out of place, they are not. Nature teaches us about God too, it is never contrary to the scriptures, after all, nature was formed by the word of God, and it is that same word that the scriptures contain. In fact, if you get a revelation from the scriptures that contradicts nature, your revelation is wrong, go back and hear God well.

The truth contained in our illustration from yesterday’s conversation, is the same thing that is at work in an atomic particle, where electrons and protons revolve around the nucleus of the atom, held in orbit by forces that maintain a conclusive relationship between the revolving particles and the established nucleus. This same phenomenon is what keeps our moon and all the communications satellites orbiting round the earth in place. It is also the same thing we see in the relationship between the planets in our solar system and the sun, where gravitational force keeps the planets in orbit around the sun.

We must realise this; truth is universal. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. (John 1:1-3 NKJV) The scripture also teach us that God cannot change, neither can His word change. As we go from one reality to another, truth may change in form, but the essence of it remains the same. Tomorrow we shall continue with the understanding of how the truth of faith operates in life.

HOW TO PRACTICALLY OPERATE IN GOD’S SHOES (PT. 80)

Fear is not necessarily the opposite of faith as it is generally thought to be, it is actually the faith of the senses. Yes, ‘godly faith’ and fear are on opposite sides of the gulf, but only in the fact that they each revolve around different centres. Complete faith and complete fear are made up of the same essence. So, in terms of their working, faith and fear share something very remarkable in common. What the scriptures call ‘the fear of God’ is what we referred to above, as complete faith, and what the scriptures call ‘the fear of death’ is what we referred to above as complete fear. Jesus is the embodiment of complete faith, and His presence destroys complete fear, so the scripture says, that Jesus came to destroy the fear of death.

Let’s look at something which has the same nature as faith and fear, so that we can further understand this most powerful influence. Get an artificial flower or something appealing, tie it to one end of a cord, hold the other end of the cord, start whirling the cord round and round. Try whirling it in different directions, then just move your hand in any set of directions, maybe move it forward, then downward, then up, to the side, and just wiggle your wrist so that the flower starts to dangle on the cord, ok, that’s it, you can stop.
Imagine there’s another man, a terrorist, doing the same thing that you’re doing, but instead of a flower, he has a sharp dagger tied to the cord, and he is indiscriminately swinging the dagger around in a crowded room.

Now, assume that the flower and dagger is a person, assume that you holding the cord is God, and the other man is the devil. Assume the cord is either complete faith or complete fear. Assume the knot tied around the key is what we generally refer to as faith or fear, and the point of contact between your hand or the other man’s hand, and the cord is the will of God or the devices of the devil. I will give you a meditation excercise on this.

Take a few moments to think deeply about the illustrations above, meditate on what we are talking about. Allow your mind to run through the scriptures, remembering passages that throw more light unto this, when you find one, stop, and ponder on it for a while and see what else it links you to. If a scripture pops up at you, murmur it to yourself, repeat it to yourself, allow yourself to be soaked and submerged in them, and light will shine upon your mind. It is important that you do this, and I will advise you to do it when your mind is relaxed, and where you will not be disturbed, where there is no noise. Jesus usually did this in the early hours of the morning, I’ll recommend that too. This is where real prayer flows from, this is what meditation is.
See you tomorrow.

HOW TO PRACTICALLY OPERATE IN GOD’S SHOES (PT. 79)

What is fear? In order to understand what fear really is, and why ‘the fear of death’ has to be destroyed, before sin can be conquered, we need to go back, and remember a few things from our previous conversations.

First, we need to remember that sin is not the ‘act’ itself. For example, if I am in the midst of people, among whom I have built up a certain level of reputation, and along comes a person, and insults me openly. My mind, based on the present circumstances, will begin to process a response to what has just happened. My senses will marshal out reasons into my mind, reasons based on what my eyes have seen, what my ears have heard and what my body is feeling at that moment. Now, if these reasons from my senses are the only reasons in my mind, they will be the only things that I see, and based on them alone, I will draw my conclusion and decide how to react. My response will probably be to reduce the reputation of the person who has just insulted me, so that mine will rise above.

In this example, the sin here is not my reaction, the sin is the decision I made in my mind, to react based on the suggestions of my senses. The reaction itself, is what the scripture calls death. On this realm, death is the manifestation of decisions inspired by the senses, just like life is the manifestation of decisions inspired by faith in the word that is hidden in my heart. This is why Jesus says, “I am the life,” because Jesus is the manifestation of the word.

Secondly, we did use an illustration about the way a thing changes in form, as it moves from one realm to another. We saw how steam, which is gaseous water, becomes liquid water, and then ice, as it goes from one state to another. We also saw how dust becomes sand, and sand become pebbles, and then pebbles turn into stones and then into rocks, rocks eventually become mountains: the same dust, but existing in different forms, as the reality in which it exists changes. Jesus was first of all God, then words, and then flesh and blood. In the same way, there are three levels of death we need to be aware of; there is the death we just talked about, then the physical death, and then eternal death, which are all ‘separation from God at different levels of reality.’

The death we just talked about, is separation of your actions from “God as truth hidden in the heart of man.” There is a very serious reason why the ‘fear of death’ must be destroyed in other to have complete victory over sin, and we will see this tomorrow.

HOW TO PRACTICALLY OPERATE IN GOD’S SHOES (PT. 78)

For the sake of clarity, let us state something clearly here. I try as much as possible in these conversations, to not ‘spiritualise’ anything. Yes, we are talking about spiritual things, but these spiritual things are very practical, and they are laid out for us in very simple forms.
How many of you reading this right now, have ever tried to manually lift your car up, in order to change a flat tyre? I know, it’s foolish isn’t it? I mean, the jack is there, so why waste time and energy trying to manually lift the car, which, by the way, is a futile attempt. The wise thing is to use your jack. All the energy you need is the energy to operate the jack, and you get exactly what you want; lift the vehicle up, hold it up while you change your tyre, and then when you’re done, lower it down gently.

Liquid water and ice blocks are both water right? Ok. So, why is it that people don’t drink ice blocks? The answer is obvious; water, in its ice form is in a state that the mouth cannot drink. A lot of church folks try to engage spiritual forces in warfare, on a plane that they are not allowed to operate in. While satan is within the walls of their city(their mind) pounding them to despair, they are pitifully trying to shoot arrows from there, all the way to the origins. Now, that’s the height of ignorance.

The forces of darkness(perceptions and impulses of the flesh) ride out of the earth(your senses), and the forces of light(faith inspired impulses rooted in love) ride out of heaven(your spirit), and they meet on the plains of your mind. It is here, that you must engage the enemy, pulling down whatever stronghold he is trying to build in you, and capturing every one of those satanic suggestions, with the expectations of your heart generated by faith in the word of God. Whatever leaves your mind from this battle, in the form of words, will produce a manifest reality on the earth consistent with itself, in the fullness of time, if it holds on to the victory. It is they that overcome to the end, that shall receive the manifestation.

Look, your problems are not out there, they are in here, inside you. You are like a projector, the things happening in your life are projections of your mind, through your words. Scripture tells us that the man, out of what is in him, brings forth the experiences of his life. Out of your heart flows the issues of life. Do not be ignorant of that.
(YOU ARE AS CHRIST IS. Ephesians 2:13-16, Galatians 2:18-20)
