That art of using the word to bind ourselves, is called meditation. It is the skill with which we wield our armour in battle. Spiritual warfare is fought in the heart, it is a battle to control what you think, because what you think, controls not just what you do, but determines what happens around you, for as a man thinks in his heart, so he is. Your topmost priority should not be about what happens in your church, business, family, work, or around you. Your topmost priority should be about what happens inside your heart. For, the good man brings goodness out of his heart, not by observing his environment. It is out of the abundance of the heart, that the mouth speaks, and God does unto us according to what He hears us say.
It is not what enters into a man, that pollutes his life, it is what comes out of his heart. The things that people say to and about you, both good and bad do not determine who you become or what happens to you, neither do the things you see, or all that. It is the things that you believe in your heart, and voice out, these are the things that shape your thinking, inform your actions, and generate your experiences in life. Your heart is the factory where your entire life is manufactured. That is where God deploys the building materials; His word with which your life is built. For, if The Lord doesn’t build a house, the builders build in vain. We are built with God’s word, as we mix more and more of it with faith in our heart, line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little, there a little, shinning brighter and brighter, until the perfect day when Christ becomes completely formed in us. That is the ‘work of God.’
God works in man, and man in turn works on his environment. God created man, and gave him the mandate to replenish the earth. God created a garden, and there He put man, there He fellowships with man, and from the centre of that garden rivers flowed out to water the earth. That garden is a type of the spirit or heart of man, where the living soul abides. That is where we fellowship with God, in the ‘cool of the day’, when everything is quiet and peaceful.(when our heart is free of the anxieties and worries of this life, and focused on the word) Notice that man was the work God. First of all, God created him to be like God, then God planted the garden(the spirit of man) and put man there. Then God told man to tend it, just as He says to us, guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life, out of your bellies flows streams of living water, out of the centre of Eden flowed the rivers that watered the earth.
