Let’s be clear about something: in walking with God there are no formulas. That is the way of man, not of God. And I will not lead you into that trap, where you find yourself in a box, unable to adapt to differences and variations in your life and encounters. Rules and regulations put you back in bondage, and make you a baby perpetually. It is better to teach you how sentences are formed by combining words, not making you memorise sentences already made up. The way of the sons of Issachar is the perfect way; understand the situation clearly, and be able to discern what to do in every situation.

So, I will not give you a “ten step approach to meditation,” NO! I will only teach you the principles and show you the tools, then you will put the principles to practice and work the tools as situations arise, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. That is what the scriptures mean when it says, “you need not that any man teach you, for the anointing is within you, and it teaches you.” You don’t need someone to tell you what to do at every particular moment, the Holy Spirit will tell you that. All the training officer needs to do for the soldier is teach him how to wield the sword, but when in battle, the instincts of the soldier takes over. I am just going to arm your spirit, then when you face your battle, the Spirit shall take over, and guide you.

In walking with God, the more you’re independent, the weaker you are, but the more dependent on God you are, the stronger you become. That’s the point that people miss. Use this as a guide in your walk with God, whatever saves you from dependence on God is weakening you spiritually and taking you away from God. You might think you’re growing, but that kind of growth is on the mind level. It’s usually hard to realise you’ve started slipping away from God in such situations because of what the scriptures say about the mind, that it’s very deceitful and wicked. You’ll think you’re making progress, but you’re actually on a part that will lead to death.

That’s when you hear people say things like, “if God doesn’t want me to think, then why did He give me a mind?” You never hear them ask the same question about their spirit, which ought to rule their mind. We’re not saying your mind is useless, we’re only saying you have to ‘use’ your mind, not let it ‘use’ you. Here’s how it works; God uses His word to enlighten your spirit with wisdom, for the entrance of His word brings light,

The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, Searching all the inner depths of his heart. (Proverbs 20:27 NKJV).

Then, this wisdom is reflected upon your mind by your spirit;

Oh, that I were as in months past, As in the days when God watched over me; When His lamp shone upon my head, And when by His light I walked through darkness; (Job 29:2, 3 NKJV)

So, bear these things in mind as we continue.
