It’s amazing how God hides things in the least likely places. He does this, so that ordinary men in their wisdom will never be able to find it no matter how hard they look. Only ‘fools’ stand a chance. Only a ‘fool’ dying of snake bite will look at a sculpted snake on a wooden pole for survival. It will amaze you to know that God has hidden the secret to life in death. Are you ‘foolish’ enough to receive and enjoy abundant life in Christ? Yes! You are! Read on.
When we are focused on things because they will benefit us, when we go after things in any area of life, academics, career, business, relationship, etc because they will meet our personal expectations or because they will serve our needs, even when we pray for them with scriptures, we will end up with dissatisfaction and unfulfilment. That’s what the scriptures mean when it says that he who finds his life will lose it. When we live and do things because we want what’s best for ourselves we will lose out on what is really best for us.
But when, as the scriptures say, we lose our life for His sake, we will find our life. Meaning; when we look away from ourselves, forget what we want, live as though we don’t care about our own selves, not because of anything else but because in each of those choices we made, it was either what was good for us or what was good for God, and we chose what was good for The Lord, then and only then will we end up with abundant life.
How is this so? Simple! Your self-serving self is the corrupted version of the real you, it is the spiritually dead you that functions only with the natural senses, the you that has a covering cast over the heart and a veil set over the eyes. One that cannot see what’s really good for oneself, nor understand what is right for oneself. This is the carnal man. So, when this one desires things, goes after things, even as a believer, a believer who out of ignorance or the deception of the world has allowed himself/herself to be controlled by the carnal man, when this one prays and quotes scripture, it is with eyes and heart blocked by the veil and the covering cast, unable to truly see or really understand. This one sees and understands, as it were, in darkness.
Who then is your true self? God! And Jesus is what you look like when you are living as your true self, Jesus is the perfect image of the true man created in the image and likeness of God. When Jesus says that those who follow Him will never walk in darkness but have the light of life, that is exactly what He is talking about. And when you forget about your self-serving self, and focus on your God-self, then and only then will you be able to hear God’s voice and know His will through the scriptures. The covering cast haven been removed, and the veil taken away, you will, in every situation be able to see exactly what your God-self, Jesus looks like. Then, when you act out what you see in that mirror, you will be living your true identity, and that’s how you become satisfied and fulfilled in life.
I want to give you practical steps you need to take for this, but you must be truly born-again for these steps to work, which means you must have known you are a sinner and must have heard that (a) Jesus is the Son of God, which means He was “the”, not “an” earthly incarnation of God, (b) He was a man just like you, (c) He was perfect and endorsed by God in all things, (d) He died on the cross because He decided to step into your own shoes, living your own life to its very final end of death, for the soul that sins shall die, (e) That the reason He did this is so you will step into His own shoes and live His own life to its very final end of eternal life and glory with The Father, (f) That God raised Him from death and He ascended into heaven, as a proof that what He came to do is authentic and accepted by God, for every accepted sacrifice ascends up to heaven, (g) You must have truly believed all these, (h) You must have confessed these things with your mouth, (i) Go ahead and do that now if you haven’t. (j) REJOICE! You are born again.
Practical Steps To Hearing God and Walking in HIS Will.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. (Matthew 16:24, 25 NKJV)
You must realise that you are stepping into the supernatural here. The supernatural is not an event, it’s a life. So, you must be prepared to go all the way, you cannot put your hand to the plough and look back. Infact, when you enter, you won’t even want to ever come out, I assure you. Taste and see that The Lord is good. This is now the way you live, not an incident; your life, not what you do.
(1) See The Kingdom of GOD.
Meditate on the word till it becomes very clear to you who Jesus really is, how He relates to you and how His importance to you cannot be matched by anything or anyone else. It has to become crystal clear to you that He is the field with a pearl buried in it, that you can sell everything you have just to have.
(2) Let The Zeal For His House Consume You.
You must act on the reality of Jesus that has been through meditation formed in your spirit. It must propel you to desire and want Jesus practically, the same way you would desire and want something that’s precious to you.
(3) Deny Yourself.
Live as though you’re dead. Don’t be moved by the needs of the carnal man. Make sure your life is not propelled by the needs of your natural self; what you’ll eat, wear, drink, where you’ll live, what people will say about you, think about you, feel about you, how to keep yourself safe, wealthy, etc. If you sow to the flesh, you will reap corruption, you will walk in darkness. Avoid that so you can hear God and know His will.
(4) Carry Your Cross.
Denying yourself doesn’t mean denying your responsibilities and situations. As a father you need to provide for your family, as a student you need to study with understanding and excel, as a businessman you need to lead success and as a single person you need to get married to the right person. After you have denied yourself, carry your responsibilities. That refers to the real needs you have, not those created by the way you want to solve your real needs. Also, accept whatever hardship or ridicule that may have resulted from denying yourself. You are going to appear before God, you must not come empty handed. Don’t become bitter, don’t become ashamed, keep thanking God and rejoicing for the kingdom He has shown you, where there is abundant life. Don’t thank Him ‘inspite of these things’, thank Him ‘for them’, because you know that these are part of His plan, that all things work together for your good now, and these light afflictions are working out an eternal weight of glory in you.
(5) Hear GOD’s Voice and Know HIS Will.
You hear God speaking when you’ve stopped listening to other things and yourself. That is when that still small voice becomes strong enough for you to hear and understand. He will remind you of the perfect scripture or direct you to one that when you read you will be like, “I’ve got it!” Or He will tell you something and show you from scripture that it is the right way to go. He may speak to you from a movie, or from observing nature, or from the conversation of two people sitting beside you in a bus. He might speak to you from a billboard, or a dream, or text message from a friend. God works in mysterious ways and He can use anything or anybody to achieve His purpose. However, He will always confirm with scripture. What you need to know is that at this point, God is more willing to speak to you than you are to hear Him. So, just ask in simple faith, like a child. If you hear any voice that scripture can’t confirm, kick it to the dust.
(6) Enter Into The Kingdom.
Act on what God tells you. Once you get an instruction, a leading from God for each step, stop praying. Go out and act on it. This is the time to walk in faith, not stand in faith. You must act on what God has said. That is how you enter the kingdom, by acting on the will of God. Marry told them, whatever He tells you, do it, that is when the water turns to wine. Those things(the cross) you carried are like burnt offerings, when you act on His will, fire will come from heaven and consume them, and produce a sweet smelling aroma. Then you will realise that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. The kind of father you’ll become to your family, the kind of student you’ll become, the manner of success your business will see and the perfection in the spouse you’ll get will dumbfound you. You will know, that of a truth, you are in God’s shoes, that you are Christ, that the whole universe is conspiring on your behalf.
(7) Stay in Your Rest.
Once you start in the supernatural, don’t switch to the natural at any point. Don’t get a word from God this way that we’ve discussed, and try to accomplish it by your own means. Handle all the steps and situations in the Spirit and you will not waste the consignment of angels and divine provisions that has been deployed to handle that project. Don’t just overcome in some, overcome till the end, and receive the reward.
“O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? Have you suffered so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? (Galatians 3:1-4 NKJV)”
YOU ARE CHRIST.
