What kind of knowledge are we talking about here? It is definitely not the knowledge that comes from mere reading or mere hearing only, it is the kind of knowledge that comes by a deeper kind of learning. We are talking about the learning that comes through meditation. This kind of learning does not just inform, it energises the spirit, it builds faith, enlarges the heart, establishes the mind on the truth of God’s word and binds or unites the whole being of the person to the will of God, that same will that decides reality.

These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble. (Mark 4:16, 17 NKJV) The reason why the seed above was not able to withstand the time of testing that came upon it was because it had no root, and so it couldn’t reach the water in the ground for nourishment and stability.

When we hear the word for the first time, it’s like dropping a seed on the ground of our heart, if we mix it with faith then it germinates. But for that word to grow to maturity and become productive it has to have access to water. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. (I Corinthians 3:6, 7 NKJV).

So, God causes advancement towards manifestation of the word and then eventually the manifestation when the word has been planted and access to its source of life maintained through meditation, which is constant whole-being exposure to that same word. A preacher or someone else cannot do this for you on a personal level. On a general level, a man of God who knows his place, together with the brethren can only do their best to keep your mind on love and your need for Christ.

But for the specifics of how these things relate to you personally and every other aspect of your faith, the responsibility falls on you. You must live a life of prayerful meditation, or you will be a weak and baby Christian all your life. We will continue tomorrow.
