“When they are diminished and brought low Through oppression, affliction, and sorrow, He pours contempt on princes, And causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way; Yet He sets the poor on high, far from affliction, And makes their families like a flock. The righteous see it and rejoice, And all iniquity stops its mouth. (Psalms 107:39-42 NKJV)”
It came to my attention that the sorrow of which we speak of in our conversation may be misunderstood. So, I consider it expedient to render a clarification. I will not have us think that one should not cry, or mourn, or be sad APPROPRIATELY. Of this, the scriptures exhort us not to mourn like those without hope, meaning there is a proper way to mourn, for those who have the joy of The Lord. This is because they see the salvation of The Lord from afar, because they have received the word of The Lord with faith.
It is proper to express emotion, but wrong to let the wrong kind of knowledge, or to let the things that we see(temporary things), which the bible calls lying vanities determine how we feel. It is proper to cry when someone dies, Jesus wept for His friend Lazarus, but it is wrong to let your heart make decisions and utter words from the place of sorrow just because someone died. When Lazarus died, Jesus knew in the Spirit that He needed to wait for four days before going to their house, eventhough He loved Lazarus so much.
Why did Jesus have to wait? Go up and read what happened before that, you will see that the Jews wanted to kill Him and He escaped. Where Jesus was when He got the news of Lazarus’ death was a place He decided to stay in order to avoid the Jews till their mob tendencies cooled down. So, if Jesus had allowed Himself to be push out of there back to the place where a mob was waiting to kill Him, that would have been acting under emotions.
“When they are diminished and brought low Through oppression, affliction, and sorrow, He pours contempt on princes, And causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way; Yet He sets the poor on high, far from affliction, And makes their families like a flock. The righteous see it and rejoice, And all iniquity stops its mouth.”
If Jesus had allowed sorrow to take over His heart, He would have made mistakes, and brought Himself face to face with death. He wisely looked at the salvation of The Lord from afar, something not yet seen(eternal things) and said Lazarus is sleeping. Don’t allow yourself to become negative about life, don’t let the circumstances of life cause you to live with feelings of discontentment, offense, negativity and hopelessness, or worse begin to question God. There is a right way to cry, and be sad, and mourn. Don’t get it twisted.
YOU ARE CHRIST.
