And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory. (I Timothy 3:16 NKJV)
You are gods. Two days ago we reminded ourselves of the change in the order of things in and around us, which arises from the fact that we’ve become something new, something identical to Christ. Infact, we are persuaded, both by faith and by internal witnessing within us that we are no longer us: we are now Him. We have been consequentially advised by scripture to “put on Christ”, having put off the old man. So, we consciously with practical effort wear the personality, excercise the nature of, and operate in the potential of Christ.
After all, He did say to us that we will get to do much more than He did. He did also say that the conditions of our existence from the day we met Him became exactly the same with the reality He represented while He was here in the flesh. All that is revealed of Him is also true of us. All the attributes of God revealed in Christ are all true of us. Only those that are not revealed to us are not true of us. The hidden things belong to God, but the revealed things are for us. This is why, even of the revealed things, one never gets to operate in the reality of them until one becomes personally aware of them. To operate in godliness, we must realise this fundamental truth; REVELATION IS NOT GENERAL, IT IS PERSONAL. It means that, in order to get results in the things of Christ, the knowledge you work with has to go beyond just what your religious order believes, or what your pastor says, or what you read, to what the Spirit has made real to you in your spirit. You get here through consistent study of God’s word, meditation on the word and prayer. General revelations drive conventional religion, not true spirituality.
Now this does not mean that we can go off on our own to and come up with “revelations” out of nowhere, no, it must be from the logos, the written word of God. What we are saying is that for you to effectively operate in the way the logos claims you can, there must come that defining moment when you say “Hmmm! I can see it now, I get it now.” It’s that moment when your heart feels like it doesn’t need faith to know that “this thing” is true. That moment when you embrace the particular scripture with your whole being. You just feel like you are this, like you can do this, like you can get this result it’s talking about.
That is the point after which you must guard your heart with all diligence, and watch out for those evil birds that come to pick out the word from the field of your heart. Because what you just received is a part of God into you, and the enemy will do anything to take it out of you again before you can use it and own it forever. What you do at this point is to act on the word. confess it, then act on it. Once you use it, it becomes yours forever. That is why you need to be doers of the word and not just hearers only. Hearers get nothing, only doers get more and more of God into themselves.
I tell you, being a Christian is the best thing that can happen to you! You get to become God little by little, line upon line, precept upon precept. Every morning more of you die to give way to more of Christ. We are being changed into His image and likeness, the more we look at this mirror called the word of God, and see clearer and clearer what He is like, which is also what we are really like in the spirit, if we just keep imitating what we see, we are being turned practically into Christ.
Paul declares; without debate, the mystery of godliness is great. And I know we agree with him. Tomorrow we begin to delve deeper into this mystery.
O LORD COME SOON.
