These things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly; but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. (I Timothy 3:14, 15 NKJV)
When in Rome do as the Romans do. When you walk across a solid and non-slippery floor, the position of the body in relation to the legs is normal and your weight is spread between both legs for support. That’s how humans walk; upright. But when you walk across a slippery or icy surface, you have to walk like a penguin if you don’t want to fall. You have to lean slightly to the front so that your weight rests on your front facing leg alone, and spread out your arms to your side like you are about to fly. The same human being, different posture. Why?
The reason is simple, every environment has its own unique features, operators that redefine reality within that environment. What you wear to keep warm in Nigeria is different from what you wear to keep warm in the UK. Kissing a fellow man on the cheek on the streets of New York may mean a completely different thing from what it means in Tel Aviv. Inside your bedroom you can afford to walk around in your lingerie. Try that in the office and you may be standing before a judge for sexual harassment charges if not declared insane. The environment you find yourself in, to some extent changes the rules.
Paul brings this home by the Spirit to the church. There is a way to conduct oneself as part of the church. There is a way to live as a Christian. There is a unique style and pattern to which we need to adhere to, just for the reason that we are now the people of God. Our reality has been redefined by the new environment we have been brought into; the kingdom of light, the presence of God. Here, our lives can no longer continue as usual. Things have changed, we must think differently, talk differently and act accordingly. The bible elaborates on that. Go read it!
You see, we are now walking on the ground of truth. We are living under a reality that supports truth. So, we are in the environment of truth, the reality around us is that of truth. Therefore, me must always turn to the truth for guidance and direction on all matters relating to life. The truth, the written word now redefines our reality, just like walking can be redefined by a slippery surface. If you seek answers and direction from the natural world alone, you will produce results that are only natural and get stuck where the natural ceases to be helpful. If you look to truth you will have a super natural experience all through life. Let the Word be your compass, your counsellor, your consultant and your life coach. And let it confirm every other source that has the capacity to provide such value for you.
O LORD COME SOON!
