WHAT IS YOUR REPUTATION?

Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. (I Timothy 3:7 NKJV)

You should really care what people think of you. Those of you who studied sciences know what a force field is. It’s basically a space around a thing where the influence of that thing can be felt. For example, there’s a certain distance around a magnet where the magnetic effect of the magnet can be felt by any metal that comes into that space. Metallic objects within the magnetic field of the magnet come under the influence of the inherent nature of the magnet. In other words, the magnet transfers or projects its nature unto the space around it.

Now, every thing has a sort of field around it. One of these fields is what we call reputation. There’s a popular expression that says “a man’s reputation precedes him”. It means that before a man enters a space, his reputation enters first. When a popular person is coming to town, even before he arrives, everybody in that vicinity is already feeling the excitement of his coming. Some other people, when they are coming, people go about their normal business like nothing is happening. The reason is because, the persons reputation opens or closes certain doors, including the door of favour.

The scriptures say “where the word of the king is, there is power”. Now, the king already has power. But when the king wants to project that power unto something or somewhere, he puts his word on that thing or that place. In other words he voices his intent. Note that a king can only project his power unto the space around him where his influence covers, in other words his kingdom.
Now, God is able to project His Word unto the whole earth because the earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof. But the leader can only project his authority unto the space where his influence stands. The effectiveness of any leader manifests only in the place where people respect him. Even Jesus could not do mighty miracles in His home town because His people looked down on Him. Paul said to Timothy, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

Now, lets get this straight. You cannot be effective as a leader if you don’t have a good reputation among people outside the church. Without a good reputation, both the leader and the flock suffer to achieve meaningful impact in society. In fact, it is a futile labour. It will amount to nothing. Listen, the Spirit we have is not a Spirit of shame(timidity), therefore, if a leader has generated a force field of shame out there in society, he cannot project the Spirit he is carrying into that force field. You need to understand how these things play out. The leader can be so great in the midst of his people, but if he has a bad reputation outside, he is nothing. Dear leader, consciously build a good reputation among people.
O LORD COME SOON!
